PROJECT: Immersive HSE Protocols: Incident Prevention & HazMat Response

The Challenge: Reading a manual about a chemical spill doesn't prepare you for the real thing. The client needed a tool to turn safety rules into physical habits (muscle memory).

The Solution: I managed the development of a VR simulation where users must physically perform the safety procedures

  • Traffic Drill: Users must strictly execute a "Look Left → Look Right → Hand Signal" sequence to cross busy zones.
  • HazMat Response: We enforced active physical engagement. The system requires the user to physically bend down to position absorbent booms, reach to place safety cones, and squat to manually scrub the floor. This "Active Ergonomics" approach ensures the user remembers the labor, not just the theory.
  • Key Feature: The "Unavoidable" Crash. To stop users from being lazy, we programmed a hard rule: if the user skips a safety check, the virtual forklift is impossible to dodge. This creates an immediate "virtual impact." It proves that blind spots are dangerous and only following the rules keeps you safe.

The Impact:

  1. Better Compliance: By physically acting out the steps (Isolate → Wear Gear → Clean), users remember the correct order under pressure.
  2. Shock Value: The shock of the virtual collision makes the lesson stick far better than reading a textbook.
